The 74x00 (and its military grade equivalent 54x00) is a Quad 2-Input NAND gate and one of the most important components in digital electronics. The chip provides four groups of 2 inputs (labelled A and B) and a single output (labelled Y) which outputs a HIGH (1) signal when either or both inputs are LOW (0), otherwise when both inputs are HIGH, the output becomes LOW.
